2nd Semester

Happy 2015!

We will begin our 2nd semester of the Navigator Choir Club on Monday, January 26 from 3:45-5pm.  This will be a 10 week session. (see schedule below.) The Navigator Choir Club has been asked to sing at the Pinckney Community Schools Board Meeting on Thursday, February 5th.  That evening our after school clubs will be recognized.  At our January 26th meeting there will be a brief parent meeting and sign up list for who will be attending our February 5th performance.

On February 5th the students will stay after school, rehearse, have pizza dinner, celebrate our first semester accomplishments and walk down the hallway to the school board meeting which begins at 7pm.  Parents can pick up your students at our usual pick up location (or better yet attend the school board meeting)  Our choir will be singing at the beginning of the meeting and will be ready to leave at approximately 7:35pm.

Other Semester Two details.

Tuition $10 (payment can be made on January 26)

Attendance Policy remains in affect.  See parent handbook for additional details.

New Students:  We will be welcoming new students to the group.  Their first night will also be January 26th and a permission slip and parent contact information along with a tuition payment will be due at that time.

Finally, I will be looking for an opportunity for the students to sing at the end of the semester. Details to follow.

Holiday Assembly

Holiday Assembly

We have had a fun first semester with the newly created Navigator Choir Club.  We have had 8 rehearsal, made a video for Veterans and will end the semester on Friday, December 19th with a school wide Holiday Assembly.

The Assembly will be Friday, December 19th from 8:55am-9:25am.  in the Jane Tasch Theater.  Children will arrive to school, check in with their teachers and then come down to Mrs. Merte's Room where they will gather.

The assembly will last approximately 30 minutes.  We will sing 4 selections and help lead a school wide sing along.  Parents are welcome to join us!

Dress in fun holiday clothing.

Wishing each family a wonderful holiday break.  See you next year!

Welcome! Parent Handbook

Handbook

Purpose

The purpose of the Navigator Choir Club is to foster the love of music and the vocal talents of those students who are willing to participate and learn above and beyond what is offered in general music class.  We hope to sing quality and enjoyable music that will enhance our vocal and musical talents. Once established, it is the hope that performance opportunities will become available for our students as we act as ambassadors of Navigator School.  Our focus on excellence, team building, outstanding musicianship and integrity of character will be the building block principles of the group.

Attendance

Rehearsal Attendance is expected and required of all choir members.  Our rehearsals are Mondays from 3:45-5:00pm.

Excused absences will be counted as excused only when I receive a note, phone call or email (lmerte@pcs.k12.mi.us) from a parent or guardian.  Excused absences include illness, unavoidable doctor/dentist appointments, etc.  Please do your best to let me know no later than 11:00AM on that Monday, if you must be absent from a choir rehearsal.  I will try to check my email and/or messages during my lunch hour each Monday.

Unexcused absences will be counted as those rehearsals missed with no prior warning, or no note from a parent/guardian.  Two unexcused absences will result in dismissal from the choir for the semester. You may rejoin the following semester. It is important that we all work together and learn the value of our commitment to each other as a musical family.

Performance attendance is required of all choir members.  An unexcused absence from a performance will result in dismissal from the choir. We need everyone!  Notification on all performances will be communicated and share both via email as well as on our website in advance.  (If there is a family conflict please discuss this with me in advance.)

Behavior

Rehearsal behavior must be excellent at all times.  Because rehearsal time is limited, we must make the best use of our time.  Excess talking and horseplay will not be tolerated. If a behavior problem occurs the parents will be notified by phone or in person. Any discipline problems that occur during a rehearsal could be grounds for dismissal from the choir.

Performance behavior must be flawless.  When we are on stage or away from our campus, we are in the spotlight representing Pinckney Community Schools.  Our behavior should always reflect how mature and well-behaved students are from our school.  Any discipline problems that occur during a performance or away from our campus could be grounds for dismissal from the choir.

Tuition Cost
I had hoped that the entire cost of the Navigator Choir Club might be supported by our PTO but unfortunately, those funds have been greatly reduced.  In an effort to provide a quality music experience for your student a tuition cost of $10.00 per child for each semester has been established.  (Should this expense be a challenge for any family a limited amount of scholarships are available)

Uniform

All choir members will be asked to dress alike for performances. Nice black pants/skirt, dark socks and/or tights, white t-shirt and black closed toe shoes will be worn. Choir sweaters will be provided.  In the future we may decide we’d like to purchase a t -shirt/polo shirt.

Website

All choir updates, calendars, and notes will be sent via email and updated on the choir website. http://navigatorchoirclub.blogspot.com/
Please make sure you are receiving emails from us. If you have not received an initial email from me please double check at the sign out table the email address we have on record for you.

Snacks
Singing is a lot of hard work and I’d like to have a brief time for snack directly after school. Would you please pack a simple after school snack that your child can enjoy.  (please no peanuts!) Following school dismissal at 3:45 students will have an opportunity to use the rest room and eat a quick snack.  We will begin singing at 4:00.

Parent Volunteers
I would love to have Parent Volunteers! I have had some interest already and would like to form a “Parent Advisory Group” in the future.  If you would be interested in helping please let me know on the return handbook form.

Pick-Up Policy for Choir Members

Students should be picked up outside room 443 in the Performing Arts Wing after choir.  In order to assure the safety of all of our students, we have a pick-up policy. Prior to the start of rehearsal each student will sign in.  This will also be the record of their attendance. At 5:00pm I ask that you enter the building (Performing Arts Door) and sign your child out. This is to help ensure the safety of our students.
